Tune up — the mic hears you, the needle tells the truth
Allow the microphone, play a note, and watch the needle: the note name, how many cents sharp or flat, and a green lock when you land it. A4 is calibratable for the orchestra folks.
Nothing is uploaded — your audio never leaves your device.
The mic feeds the pitch detector and nothing else — no recording, no upload. It stops when you do.
In tune is the entry fee. Knowing the notes is the game.

Tuning tips the needle can't teach
Tune up to the note, not down — strings hold pitch better when the last motion tightened them. Pluck near the twelfth fret for a purer signal the detector loves. And if the needle sits stubbornly a few cents sharp on every string, your instrument isn't haunted: fresh strings stretch for a day or two, and hot stage lights detune everything.
The tuner reads whatever pitch is loudest, so it works for guitar, bass, violin, brass, voice, and the saxophone in the next room — close the door, or embrace the duet.
Frequently asked questions
How accurate is a browser microphone tuner?
Well within a cent under normal conditions — the YIN pitch algorithm this tuner uses is the same family desktop tuners rely on. Room noise and very low notes (below ~50 Hz) are the practical limits, not the math.
Why does the needle jump around?
The needle follows your actual pitch, which on a real instrument wobbles — especially right at the pluck or with vibrato. Let the note settle for half a second; the tuner smooths the reading and locks when you're within a few cents.
What is A4 calibration for?
Concert pitch defaults to A4 = 440 Hz, but orchestras tune anywhere from 438 to 443, and baroque ensembles use 415. Set the reference and every note name shifts accordingly.
Is my microphone audio recorded or sent anywhere?
No. The mic feeds the pitch detector inside your browser and nothing else — no recording, no upload, and the mic stops the moment you leave or hit stop.
